Learn To Dance Before Going To The Ball
22nd March 2017
Now that everyone claims to know about the threats to their organisation from cybercrime, it is time they did something about addressing their vulnerabilities to it. Most businesses seem to have this task on their to-do-list but few have actually done anything.
Almost everyone I have spoken to about their cyber security has said that their IT people look after this and seem to have everything covered. Cybercrime is not JUST an IT issue, it is a business matter that affects the whole organisation, particularly staff. In other words, everyone in the business has a role to play in keeping the organisation safe from data theft, ransomware and financial fraud.

If all that is stopping you from taking a serious look at how your organisation is vulnerable is being unsure of what to do, The Bureau recommends you take a look at the Cyber Essentials cyber security scheme. The majority of cyber attacks exploit basic weaknesses in IT systems and software. Cyber Essentials shows how an organisation can address those basics and prevent the most common attacks. The scheme is designed by the UK Government to make it easy for organisations, particularly small to medium sized ones, to protect themselves from cyberattack.

The Cyber Essentials documents are FREE to download and any organisation can use them to put essential security controls in place. However, applying for a Cyber Essentials certificate will provide independent assurance that you have the protections correctly in place. You will also be able to display the Cyber Essentials badge to demonstrate to customers and suppliers that you take cyber security seriously - promoting a reputation of sound management whilst giving you a competitive edge over your rivals
